Types of Agriculture:

    • There are several types of agriculture in Australia

    • Crops, the growing of grain and other crops in what is known as broad acre farming. Broad acre farming turns the soil into a large sponge that soaks up water, herbicides and pesticides from the lack of any natural growth.

    • Horticulture is the growing of plants in large quantities, normally these are sold off to florists afterwards and used for special occasions such as weddings or birthdays.

    • Viticulture, which is the science of wine making is used widely in the south australia region such as the barossa valley and the hunter valley. This involves large areas of land being converted into vineyards to grow large quantities of grapes.

    • Livestock or meat farming involves the growing of livestock such as cattle and sheep and then killing them for the meat that you eat on the dinner table. This involves large areas of land being fenced of to provide safe havens for the livestock to fatten until being killed.

    • Dairy farming is one of the most important agricultural activites. This involves large heards of dairy cattle being raised on a farm and milked constantly after impregnation. Dairy farming has been very harshly effected from droughts as with a lot of other agricultural activities.

    • Fisheries send out large trawler boats that have huge nets attached that pick up everything in their path, not only is this terrible for the environment but it also wipes out many species that live on sea grass such as the dewgong. Fishing a huge industry that is run by many different companies and overfishing has taken its toll on this industry.

    • Wool and cotton farming a the widest contributers to the clothes that we wear. Cotton unlike wool is obtained by the farming of plants planted in huge crops. Wool is obtained from the shearing of sheep which are grown in large heards.

    • Drought and other environmental hazards such as overfishing and soil degradation hugely effect these industries and if these things continue we may not have all of the things we have today.
