Description They are between 70 to 90 cms long, and have a 'frill' around their head. When the lizard gets frightened, it opens its mouth and the frill is folded out. This is to make the lizard appear larger and is one of its defensive strategies against predators. The lizard can also run very fast, and it runs on its two hind legs.
Habitat They normally live in a hot tropical environment and are found all over Northern Australia. They like to bathe themselves in sun like other reptiles.
What they Eat They eat all kinds of small insects.
Predators Predators include birds of prey (eagles and owls), larger lizards, snakes, dingoes, quolls and feral cats.
Life The lifespan of a Frill-necked Lizard in the wild is unknown. In captivity it is about 20 years.
