Whaling is an issue for several reasons. The most obvious reason would be that if whaling continues at the rate it is today (400-500 a year), whale populations will be so slim an attempt to recover their population would be extremely difficult. This would eventually lead to the endangerment or even extinction of these truly unique animals. Also, whales come through the warmer waters of eastern Australia when they migrate, and are a major tourist attraction. If the humpback whale were to become extinct, there would be a major problem, because some towns rely on the money brought in by tourism from the whales to operate. This would then cause people to lose their jobs, and even more problems would occur. Other than these whaling is illegal, and just shouldn’t be happening.
