Antarctica is the coldest place in the world. Antarctica is situated in the Southern Hemisphere. The total area of Antarctica is 5.5 million square metres and doubles in size during winter because of the sea ice that is form at its periphery. The temperatures in Antarctica in winter vary around -50 C which is extremely freezing and in summer they are still very cold and they rise to -30 C. Antarctica is more than 95% covered in ice and has more than 90% of the world’s fresh water.
