In the world today we need to produce a lot more food and comfort items than we did 20 years ago due to this we have more pesticide and fertilizers used in growing the food we eat some of it is not kept on the land, some of it runs into the sea or estuaries. Once they are sent to market or super markets they are packaged up and sometime the packaging is not disposed of properly. also things like plastic bags don't brake down for 10 of years. all these thing will eventually end up in the ocean

this illustration shows how your suwage is taken and reused to make fresh water witch is better than the water we drink at the moment. this is because of wat they do with the water they provied an oxygen rich eviroment for the good bacteria to grow in this then brakes down the sewage into water that then can be purefied through filter and other meens.

Interesting facts about water and why we need it

  • Water is essential to life.
  • Less than three percent of Earth's total supply of water is fresh water.
  • Polar ice and inaccessible groundwater make up more than half of that three percent.
  • In the developed western world, as well as the developing world, water is becoming more polluted.
  • Every year, polluted water kills more than 24 million people in the developing world. Most of those killed are children.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency manages water quality in Queensland, licensing discharges of treated sewage and industrial wastewater, and protecting water quality under the Environmental Protection (Water) Policy 1997.
  • Industry is only one source of water pollution. Other sources include sewage treatment plants, households, streets and footpaths.
  • Individuals pollute water by littering (including cigarette butts), pouring oils down the sink, and using fertilisers and other chemicals on their gardens. These pollutants are then washed or blown into stormwater drains and local waterways.
  • Litter is a major contributor to visual pollution of waterways. Most litter reaches waterways through the stormwater system, washing from footpaths and streets into stormwater drains.
