THE UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS
DECLERATION FOR DUMMIES

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS? That’s ok, until you get a grip on the verbose version, here is:
THE UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS DECLARATION (for dummies)

GENERAL PRINCIPLES:

  • All human beings are equal. No one has anymore rights then anyone else.
  • You have control of your actions and must make ethical choices, you are bound to take responsibility for your actions and never act with cruelty or malice.
  • Human rights belong to everyone- and they mean everyone. What is happening in your country politically is irrelevant to the status of human rights.
  • You must be able to live free, without fear of harm.
  • A human being cannot be owned.
  • Torture or harmful treatment is a violation of human rights.
  • Human rights must be protected.

THE LAW

  • The law must protect all people equally.
  • Any discrimination in law is a violation of human rights.
  • The rights guaranteed by your country’s law must be restored if broken.
  • You cannot be arrested, imprisoned or forced to leave your country unless you have behaved in a way that legally demands such action.
  • You have the right to a fair trial to defend yourself from criminal charges and ensure your human rights.
  • You are innocent until proven guilty.
  • If you are found guilty you may no worse punishment then the maximum punishment at the time of the original offence.

YOUR GOVERNMENT

  • Trying to control your family, home life or communication is serious and cannot be done without a valid reason.
  • Your privacy and reputation should be protected by your government. If not you should be able to be defended by the law. 
  • Your country should not stop you from moving to, or living in, a different area of the country. You have the freedom to leave and enter your own country.
  • Unless you are a genuine criminal or human rights offender you have the right to flee your country and seek refugee status elsewhere.
  • You have the right to obtain and keep a nationality.
  • You may choose your government representatives or be involved yourself.
  • Government must be selected by a voting procedure and all people have the right to vote.
  • Social security and government support is a right of all people.
  • Your government should ensure economic security for you, ands your family, especially if you are unable to work.

WAY OF LIFE RIGHTS

    • You have the right to marry and have children, if both parties give consent.
    • You have the right to own property, no one has the right to take it from you without reason.
    • Thoughts are totally free, you may express these thoughts and opinions in any way you choose.
    • You have the right to practice any religion you wish.
    • You cannot be forced to join an association or group but you do have the right to meet with an association or group if they meet peacefully.
    • You have the right to work in fair conditions (including reasonable work hours and regular paid holidays) for the same pay as your colleagues. You can join a union.
    • All people have the right to be educated.
