About this site

So what makes a website good? It is a question that is not easily answered. All websites need to combine a number of key elements that will ensure a visitors return. First and formost, a website should have good content, afterall, that is why the visitor is there, they want to know something. Secondly, all websites need simple navigation. Finding ones way around a website can be the deteriming factor when visiting  a site. A simple, easy to navigate website will ensure a happy visitor. However, on the contrary, a hard to navigate website is the same as having a “Go away” sign out the front of one’s business. If a visitor cannot find what they’re looking for quickly, they will leave. A simple, consistent navigation structure is imperative.

The next thing a website needs is a quick loading structure, slow websites are another thing visitors do not enjoy. A website needs to load quickly, end of story. If it takes more than thirty seconds, it’s not worth worrying about, is the rule of thumb. Finally, all websites need to be attractive. Such as anything in life, if all other features are the same, it will be the more attractive competitor that will win.

Dreamweaver

This website has abided by all of these standards. It has practical information for user consumption. It has a strong “Information architecture” or in other words, a simple, effective, practical navigation system that allows users to make their way around the site easily. The website is a quick loading one, this has been achieved by the use of CSS, or Custom Style Sheets. This technique required the browser to only reload the template images once. The same images are used on every page, saving precious time in loading up pages. Finally, the design of the website has been accomplished by using Adobe Photoshop  and a number of simple effects to create the overall good impression of the site. The intergration from a primary image file to complex html and css has been done with the use of Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.

The colours used are that of black and white. The primary reasoning behind this is because it gives more of a focus on the content. Websites in this day are normally “jammed pack” full of bright colours. It is important to have simple, effective blacks, whites and greys. This allows the user to be affected by the website, but not be distracted.
